The events of the previous day had the trio fazed. What do you do now? How do you handle the people judging you? This was new territory for our heroes and we can say that it was way out of their comfort zone. They couldn't really wrap their heads around the fact that the statement made was super offensive to a girl. She laughed at that statement for god's sake!
However, they were 14 year olds and even an event as big as this couldn't keep them away from football. Football is love! Football is life! They came back as usual from their morning practice at 9 and by 10 they were given a news!
Jason's family decided that that was the best year for their family to go on a vacation! Lady Luck is too kind to some people! "Oh Hell No!", cried both Leo and Percy when he broke the news to them. "You'll have fun and we get to bear the entire brunt of the people. How's that fair?", screamed Leo and Jason, somehow, gave a reason sugar-coated enough for our childish brains to believe his valid reasons for going. To apologize for their mistake, they gave him their precious FIFA 10 CD.......Sad Day indeed! Jason was, and still is, a master manipulator!
Percy, however, had some suspicions and as a last ditch effort to keep their FIFA CD here, he stole it from Leo and ran away from their house at the speed oflight a fast sloth, maybe? I don't remember! He could get as far as three floors before he was caught by a much faster Leo! Percy was angry at Leo for not keeping the game here and he went to calm his mind the only way he knew how. He went to the grocery store to buy chips and cold-drinks!
However something peculiar happened when he reached the store. As he was entering, he became aware of the presence of something evil...Her mother! He was ready for a fight at any time now! He checked his vocab for all respectful sarcastic gaalis he could come up with for his arsenal and went into the store ready for the worst.
He went to the shopkeeper and calmly asked for Lays and a Coke and paid. By this time, predator supremo had finished buying the entire store and I saw that she was standing outside facing the opposite direction. Gathering every bit of courage which a 14 year old could muster, Percy came out of the store and started walking towards home. At that moment, he was stopped. "You shouldn't do things like these Percy. No body does it", shouted Ativna's mom and without waiting for a reply, she walked away. At first, Percy's thoughts comprised of only one word. "Whaaaaaaaat?" and he couldn't really comprehend what had happened. Then, shaking it off, he went his own way back to life.
Life went more or less back to normal, as normal as it could get, when Durga Puja was over and each of the characters went back to studies and football. However, and this is an important however, I forgot to say that Leo,Percy and Jason were in different sections and Ativna was with Leo. Now, same van+same society+same class = circumstantial friendship. This friendship was anything but circumstantial! Oh, don't you negate me, reader! The mushy talks and the hand holding was there for everyone to see. Percy could clearly see the devil forming a close relation with his b-fam!Although Percy was devastated at this reality, he wouldn't do anything to hamper their chances. He left things up to fate!
Let's cut the boring and painful facts of what happened and skip right to Durga Puja class 9:
By this time, Ativna had stolen the places of Leo and Jason. She was a part of him and he, a part of her. Even when he was with them, all he could say was, Ativna did this and she said this. She's so cute! Yap-Yap Yappity yap! Jason was frustrated enough to leave us again and go for another vacation which left Percy alone as usual. Percy was a lazy animal! The only thing which used to motivate him to go down 5 stories was the thought of an awesome time with Leo and Jason but this year it was sort of becoming tougher! Fuck it! He wouldn't go down anymore. His new FIFA 11 sounded a lot better than going down to meet particularly no one.
Leo was , at first, upset due the behavior of his friends but it didn't particularly calm down his flirtatious nerves. He used to go on long walks with her( long walks = 60-70 rounds of our society) and talk to her in the buildings so that the CCTV aunties wouldn't see them together. Now, when I think about it, Why the hell would you walk together out in teh open and talk in the buildings. It doesn't make sense. Comment if you know why they did what they did.
If you ask present day Leo what they talked about at that time, first he'll get shy and would not want to speak about that bad phase in his life but if you pester enough, he might let it slip out that they talked about things as interesting as atheism, favorite teachers, sadness due to exams and so on. Wow! Couple talks are so interesting!
Time to introduce a fourth character. I'm introducing him partly because he wanted me to do it and partly because he will be needed now to continue the story. Everybody put your hands together for Mr. Frank Zhang. Our very own superhero who drives around 24/7 in his Lamborghini Jota. (Khush?). Oh, I forgot the music taste. Our superhero has impeccable music taste as well. And....Yes, our superhero has his hands dabbed in Gucci.
Back to reality, Leo and Ativna, as stated before, talked inside buildings. An evil plan hatched into Percy's mind. He had just read in the most recent crime fiction book, the concept of blackmail. How about they click photos of the love birds talking together and then delete the photo for a 10 rupee chips packet? Sounded like a great deal at that time. Of course, Percy's good friend Frank was the man for the job. Frank was courageous almost to a fault and he was brawny. So, Percy handed Frank a friend's camera and in went Our superhero to get a click. A click he did get but which he could not retain. As soon as Leo heard the camera, he raced towards Frank and literally wrestled the camera out of Frank's reach. He deleted the photo. Percy was FRANKly relieved that he wasn't blamed for the incident because Frank was such a good friend.
After this Percy was sure that there was nothing he could do to extort money from them so he left them alone. However, that evening, something happened. Leo and Percy were walking around while the cultural show of our society was being conducted. Nothing unusual here. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, came a girl of our colony whom we hardly knew and said to Leo," Dude, Ativna wants to talk to you. Are you free now?"
There were questions in Percy's mind but he kept quiet. He saw that Leo was looking at him as if seeking his approval and he gave back a confused expression. Finally, he said yes but with a condition that Percy was to accompany him. Was he scared of something? Had something happened in a day? They went towards her and of course, the entire female gully gang was present there. They really wished for backup in the form of Frank and Jason but none of them were available. They ambled along coz they were cool and nobody, except mummy and papa, could tell them what to do with their life.
"Can I talk to you alone S-man", asked Ativna ." Please talk to me!" she cried and Percy could see that ladies all around them were leaving unless there were just two of them left. Then, she asked ever her bestie to leave and then looked expectantly towards Percy as if wanting him to do the same. Again there was a silent eye contact between the bros and Percy really couldn't tell what Leo was trying to imply and so he left. Later, he learned that Leo had meant for him to stay. They really were friends who understood each other!
Ahem! Percy didn't know what happened between them that day so people should know by now that that part cannot be posted in this story due to lack of knowledge. A good thing came out of the meeting I suppose because Leo didn't even mention her once for the rest of the puja. Yay!
That year, Leo created his Facebook account and installed the Messenger app. Before even adding Leo to his friends, he sent a request to her and Percy is still a bit salty about it today. Moving on, Leo and Ativna started chatting on the app. Source for all Messenger related drama: Leo Valdez. Thanks dude!
Sometime just after Durga Puja Leo wrote that she kinda ruined Durga Puja for him. I could not get it out of Leo as to what she actually did so let's move on again. To the message she replied that she was sorry for ruining his puja and that she wanted to get "something" straight. She further added that it would be better if they both forgot about these events with a please inserted somewhere in the sentence. She wanted them to go back to what they were before. Happy:) Aww!
After DP, our physical interactions reduced again and the boys only met on the football field where you did not have the time to even breathe, forget about talking. However, for our love birds, there was Facebook and class; everything was sorted for them.
The love wasn't all gone though. At her 16th birthday, Leo wished her a happy "sweet" 16 and asked her to get 18 ASAP. Her reply was interesting. She asked what ASAP meant. Nice! Leo was falling for a hip woman of the 21st century. They wished each other on Christmas and New Year. Then comes Durga Puja again and Boy Oh Boy! This is gonna be a good one.
This year Jason decided to grace the others with his presence and thankfully didn't decide to run away somewhere. Although, this was a stable year as there wasn't any tension between the love birds. This was a big year for our heroes cause this year was a Board Year. Class 10 boards were right around the corner. Percy made up his mind not to go down that year and study. Asshole!
Now, Jason's mom was... angry(?) at people our age for not performing in the cultural program of our society and this needed to change. Leo and Frank had flatly refused to be associated with any type of singing or dancing. That left Percy. Percy's case was different. His mom was a very good friend of Jason's mom and frankly Percy was shit scared of his mother. So when Mama Percy said that he had to be a part of what Jason's mom was planning, there was no other choice.
He went to Jason's mom to check out what tasks, or rather, gracious performances he had to perform. When he entered Jason's house, there she was! Bhabiji herself! Fuuuuuccccc!
An Year later Ativna confessed her love for Leo! :p
